Building Brand Identity and Community: H-CO Properties

We recently had the pleasure of working on a commercial renovation project with H-CO Properties, a growing group of on-the-move brokers with clientele in both single and multifamily markets. H-CO Properties approached us with a list of desired outcomes for their office renovation:

1. Enhance workflow function and efficiency

2. Create community

3. Define a cohesive brand identity

4. Represent professionalism

In this blog post, we’ll share how we achieved these goals in the renovation design.

Design Approach

We took a holistic approach to the project, carefully considering the desired outcomes and the unique needs of H-CO Properties. We created a flexible semi-open office layout with distinct support and work areas. The materials we used are uniquely assembled, but warm and familiar to residential clientele. Smaller details such as color, texture, and consistent assembly techniques are used to create visual unity in every inch of this small office. Sustainable strategies and locally sourced materials were used.

Defining H-CO Properties’ Brand Identity in Space

H-CO Properties wanted a unique space that stood out from what others had in their field. They wanted to stand out and make a statement. To achieve this, we focused on creating a custom wood fin ceiling that unifies the workspace, baffles light and sound, and gives a visual identity to the office. In the ceiling are four skylights, along with light fixtures between wood slats, so there is a dynamic play of light throughout the day. The sculpted wood above you in the space, alongside the beautiful quality of light from the skylights adds a memorable element to H-CO Properties’ brand identity while unifying the many areas of the office – literally under one roof.

Creating a Community-Focused Environment

One of the most important challenges when designing a commercial space is how to create a sense of community. H-CO Properties wanted a space where everyone can come and go – realtors with their laptops can come work while quick client meetings can take place in the conference room. We created an open plan to facilitate this way of working, but we also allowed breakout spaces by offering different seating options – desks, soft seating, kitchen bar top, and formal conference room.

The kitchenette was created as a place for employees to gather to chat around the island. The kitchenette also holds employee mail and a copy area to enhance community interactions in a centralized gathering spot. The space is meant to have the ‘office cooler’ effect – you can work, eat, get mail, gather the team around the island, print, and pick up your office supplies all in one small area, which fosters connection and chance interactions.

Flexibility for Individual Working Styles

We took into account the flexibility of individual working styles by creating formal seated desks, standing desks, and informal soft seating areas. This flexibility was important for the brokers, who may work in the office for extended periods or may come in and out throughout the day.

Sustainable Strategies and Locally Sourced Materials

Finally, we incorporated sustainable strategies and locally sourced materials into the design. This was important to both us and the client, as H-CO Properties wanted to represent professionalism in their industry, which includes being responsible environmental stewards. We used sustainable materials and assembly techniques, as well as locally sourced materials whenever possible.

Bringing their Vision to Life

H-CO Properties approached us with clear goals for their space, and we were able to bring that vision to life. By focusing on defining their brand identity, creating a community-focused environment, providing flexibility for individual working styles, and incorporating sustainable strategies and locally sourced materials, we were able to design a unique space for H-CO Properties. The result is a beautiful, functional, and memorable office that enhances the working experience for everyone who enters it.
