Bascule House
On the rolling pasture, the house begins the first chapter of a masterplan envisioning a home where human and horse live in harmony.
Bascule /ˈbæskjuːl/ is the natural round arc a horse's body takes as it goes over a jump.
Long concrete walls cut through the home and extend into the rolling landscape, anchoring the house while carrying the interior experience outward. Each wall aligns with site features—a pond, future stables, and a planned arena—orienting the home to its setting. Above this grounded datum, a wedge-shaped second story vaults in a singular sweep, hovering over the pinwheeling walls below. Breaks in the walls create rhythm and moments of passage, recalling the stride of a jumping horse.
