How can the home act as a lens to the forest?

Movement through the home is a journey through nature, engaging both sides of the site and pulling inhabitants into the landscape. Rooted in mid-century modern and deck house traditions, the architecture uses horizontality, transparency, and outdoor living to strengthen this connection to place.
Nestled in the forest between two hills and a large swale, the home creates a central living space that faces south within the landscape. With large, carefully curated windows, the kitchen, living, and dining rooms are extended outside via a large deck and connect to the meadow and trees for inside-outside living. The two-story home is laid on an east-west axis to maximize the benefits of passive solar throughout the year. The exterior detailing reinforces the floating volumes and siding found in mid-century modern design. Movement through the home is choreographed to views and natural light, with the windows becoming ever-changing art by capturing the tall pines, hardwoods, and landscape beyond.
